After airing, more than 150,000 visitors hit Death Wish Coffee’s website. Sales that Super Bowl Sunday were 20 to 25 times higher than what they were on an average Sunday.
The Super Bowl commercial caused massive overselling. In the days following the ad, Death Wish reps were replying to an onslaught of customer emails and calling their suppliers to quickly reorder. Their product team was working late into the night. Everyone on the payroll, friends, and family were on the floor trying to package orders.
The logistics team was on the phone multiple times a day with their 3PL provider asking for inventory updates. The problem wasn’t having enough traction or willpower or caffeine. The problem was growth. The rapid increase in demand was going to put them out of business.
After weeks of drowning in orders, the Head of Operations googled “Shopify inventory management” and came across an “operations platform company” called Skubana. He got on the phone with the CEO and for the first time spoke with a person who knew how to solve his problems. The founder ran his own direct-to-consumer business and understood the nightmare he was experiencing for the past several weeks.
